Electives
AHS students are also invited to take elective mathematics courses. These courses are primarily one semester in length, and designed to offer students the opportunity to explore specific areas of interest. Proposed courses are subject to change based on student interest. 

For students who wish to pursue an "Advanced Math/Engineering" path, our core classes and our one semester "College Algebra" will prepare students to take Calculus and Advanced Calculus. 

Mathematics Electives (2020-2021):
  • College Algebra
  • Calculus (full year; prerequisite: College Algebra or placement test)
  • Advanced Calculus (full year; prerequisite: Calculus)
  • SAT Prep
  • The Art of Mathematical Thinking
  • Engineering Mathematics: Tiny Home Construction
  • Consumer Math
  • ​Advanced Consumer Math

Interdisciplinary Electives (2020-2021): Animas High School recognizes and celebrates interdisciplinary learning. With that in mind, the following electives are taught by AHS math and science staff and involve the application of mathematics concepts and skills:
  • ​Introduction to Computer Science: Python (Terms 1 and 2)
  • Advanced Chemistry
  • Advanced Physics
  • Intro to Engineering
  • Advanced Engineering
  • Psychology
