Electives
AHS students are also invited to take elective mathematics courses. These courses are primarily one semester in length, and designed to offer students the opportunity to explore specific areas of interest. Proposed courses are subject to change based on student interest. 

For students who wish to pursue an "Advanced Math/Engineering" path, our core classes and our "College Algebra" elective will prepare students to take Calculus and Advanced Calculus. 

Mathematics Electives:
  • College Algebra (full year, recommended 10th-12th grade)
  • Calculus (full year; prerequisite: College Algebra or placement test)
  • Advanced Calculus (full year; prerequisite: Calculus)
  • SAT Prep
  • Consumer Math
  • ​Advanced Consumer Math
  • Intro to Machine Learning & AI
  • Geometry
  • Advanced Geometry

Interdisciplinary Electives: Animas High School recognizes and celebrates interdisciplinary learning. With that in mind, the following electives are examples of electives taught by AHS mathematics staff and/or involve the application of mathematics concepts and skills:​
  • Maker Lab, Engineering Design, and Fabrication
  • Advanced Maker Lab, Engineering Design and Fabrication
  • Advanced Chemistry​
  • The Drug War
  • Introduction to Caribbean History & Politics
